Desktop App KoboPatchFan - a GUI application for Kobo patches

Hi,

Providing a windows portable version is really a plus, but it seems that some of the expected features (of a usual portable application) haven't been handled.

Noticeably, the settings are now still stored in the registry and the working folder is tight to system user's document root.

Maybe you may get some hints looking at https://github.com/songyuncen/QtJsonSettings to remove the registry dependency

Those are very good points, thank you! You're right, I definitely should make some improvements for the portable version.

@mbovenka: A new version will be released when a new Kobo is released, as long as no critical bugs are reported. The Files-thing is on the to-do list

There are no updated patches for the current firmware for the new Kobos.

New KoboPatchFan version 1.3:

• Support for 3 new Kobos (Libra Colour, Clara BW, Clara Colour)
• Support for new download mirror in kfw.db.js
• Always automatically choose the latest firmware version in tab 1
• Fixed a bug that made wrong firmware versions available for selection
• Reworked layout for patch selection, the size of the description text field now adapts to the text
• Other small visual changes

"Support" here means that v1.3 is now able to work with the 3 new Kobos. The device codes are hard-coded.

Of course, KoboPatchFan will tell you that there are currently no patches available when you select one of the 3 new devices. But when the new patches are available in maybe 1-2 weeks, all you have to do is to click "Update database" in tab 1 and you're ready to patch.

Thank you for the Kobopatchfan app.
I use a hyphenation dictionary file in Kobopatch. The file is put in the SRC folder and I added text in kobopatch.yaml as follow

files:
  src/hyph_en.dic: usr/local/Kobo/hyphenDicts/hyph_en.dic

When I run the Kobopatchfan, the file isn't included in the patch process.
Maybe you can make a tweak on this issue.

My question is if i manually downloaded the kobo firmware or the patch zip file. Which folder i need to put them in? Is there a instruction for the folder structure?

At the first start, KPF creates an empty folder ‘KoboPatchFan’ in Documents. You must extract the patch.zip into this folder. Patch.zip contains the actual folder structure. Then copy the firmware file into KoboPatchFan/src (the src subfolder comes from patch.zip).
Basically you just have to follow the first 3 steps of the official instructions, but do everything in the KoboPatchFan folder in Documents.
