Large Calibre Library Backup Best Practices

I have a Large Calibre Library consisting of almost 250K in books taking up 500GB+ of hard disk space on Windows 11.

I would like to know if anyone has developed a backup and restore methodology that doesn't take days to run and what steps to do so.

I'm getting ready to make some major changes to my computer and want to make sure that at a minimum I have my large library with all it's configurations backed up before I do so. At this time I don't have access to 'cloud' storage, but I do have an external hard drive which I plan to use to backup everything to.

Thanks for the help

free file sync to a fast external (USB3 or esata) HD
The first run will do everything (you configure. Remember the Config folder) and creates a 'log' of what it found

Later runs scan for changes (this takes the most time), using the log as the master.
Only changes (add, deletes and updated) copies are executed . My target drive is actually another PC on the network

A lot of backup/sync utilities allow for incremental or differential backups, which only copy changed files.

Yep. Copy both the library and configuration folder to an external hard drive, even better, more than one. After the initial copy has been made, you can use FreeFileSync to mirror any changes to the back-up copy. Remember using the mirror option in FFS, not the two-way sync.

for config folder, I run this batch script periodically:

for library backup, I've chosen FFS:

There's no need for the script as FreeFileSync will backup the config as well. And it will do it faster as it only does changed or new files.
